- Description
- The USDA, Agricultural Research Service intends to enter into a single-source contract with the Department of Animal Science at the University of Minnesota. This contract is to procure 150 Holstein embryos from their 1960 control line of Holsteins. The maternal side of the embryos will be from the control line. The embryos will be frozen and will have been continuously stored in liquid nitrogen. Accompanying each embryo will be the sire and the dam's identification number, the date the embryo was collected and frozen, stage of embryo development and the grade of the embryo. This particular line of Holstein has milk production levels that deviate significantly from the genetics currently used in the industry. This line of cattle has a herd breeding value for total milk production of -6054 pounds.
