- The General Services Administration (GSA), a Federal Government agency, is exploring industry capabilities for a web-based online booking engine for travel services (such as Travelocity, Orbitz, etc.). GSA is interested in learning how web-based online booking engines work; what features and capabilities web-based online booking engines deliver; how web-based online booking engines integrate with travel profiles, business rules and/or corporate policies, expense, and reporting management systems; what efficiencies can be gained by implementing a web-based booking engine in a corporate travel environment; and the types of data available to corporate entities to enable effective travel management. You are invited to provide information that will assist GSA in understanding the commercial market for this type of service. The information you provide will be used to ensure that any requirements developed for a future solicitation accommodate and adopt commercial practices to the maximum extent practical. Oral responses from web-based online booking engine providers, along with a demonstration of current/planned systems are desired and is tentatively planned for the week of July 8, 2002, in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Please be prepared to address the following during your oral presentation. 1. What is your company name and where is your corporate headquarters located? 2. When was your company established? 3. What is your company?s URL? 4. Who is your customer base? Identify your customers with the highest percentage of use. Identify the total number of tickets and the number of tickets booked online for each customer. 5. What are your most successful implementation/deployment/adoption strategies and/or plans? 6. Does your company have any partnerships with other companies? If so, with whom? What are the channels for distribution? 7. In terms of the number of users, what is your company?s targeted market for your web-based online booking engine and identify the segmentation? For example: 0-100, 101-250, 251-500, 500+, please indicate. 8. Will you be the sole provider of the on-line booking engine or do you subcontract any of your components? If so, which ones and why? 9. What is the value proposition of your product for the corporate managed travel market and how are you measuring it? 10. What Global Distribution System (GDS) does your web-based online booking engine utilize or is compatible with? List all. 11. What are the strengths and weaknesses of your web-based online booking engine? 12. What standard internet browsers do you work with and what strengths and weaknesses do you see with each? 13. How do you handle a common travel profile that shares information with a web-based online booking engine and the GDS systems? 14. What type of integration capabilities are needed to establish a web-based online booking engine that will integrate with any or all of the following: travel management system, financial system, travel card (credit card), human resource systems and what type of communication protocols would be used to exchange/integrate data between your online booking engine and other existing components? 15. What type of training will you provide to the users of your web-based online booking engine? Will training be provided as updates occur? Is the cost separate? 16. How does the commercial market define a successful adoption rate for a web-based online booking engine? 17. What is the adoption rate of your web-based online booking engine? 18. What performance metrics do you use; i.e., ?look-to-book?? 19. What are your performance goals? What progress have you made in achieving those goals? 20. What are the commercial performance standards/metrics used in evaluating a web-based online booking engine? 21. What type of Information Technology infrastructure will be needed to support a web-based online booking engine? 22. What types of Travel Management Reports can your web-based online booking engine generate and in what file format will they be available? 23. What is the scalability of your on-line booking engine, i.e., the degree to which the web-based online booking engine supports workgroup operations and how they scale to support enterprise-wide data integration and retrieval, capacity and backup capabilities? 24. How will you handle different configurations for different Federal customers? 25. How will maintenance and support be provided once a web-based online booking engine is established and running? 26. What security protocols such as virtual private networks and/or public key infrastructures are used, i.e., how does your web-based online booking engine protect the confidentiality of its users? 27. Have you provided a web-based online booking engine to any Federal or State Government agency and if so, who are the agencies, the point of contact at the agency, and their telephone number? 28. Can you provide us with a list of managed corporate travel clients, the points of contact, and their phone numbers that you have provided a web-based online booking engine? 29. What is the typical implementation time for the deployment of a web-based online booking engine to service a large number of users located in various locations? 30. What obstacles do you typically encounter when deploying a web-based online booking engine and how are they resolved? 31. What is the commercial practice for acquiring a web-based online booking engine? 32. What is the commercial pricing structure for providing a web-based online booking engine? 33. What are the commercial terms and conditions for providing and maintaining a web-based online booking engine? 34. Are there any regulatory, economic, technological, or other barriers for providing a web-based online booking engine to a Government entity? 35. What information do you need from a potential client in order to prepare a bid for providing a web-based online booking engine? 36. Can you provide us with some literature on your web-based online booking engine and its capabilities?
