- Description
- The Office on Womens Health, Department of Health and Human Services has a project for the development of a National Center of Excellence in Womens Health (CoE) Cultural Competency Curriculum and intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with the Harvard University National Center of Excellence in Womens Health, Director, Office for Women, Family, and Community Programs, Brigham Womens Hospital, Neville House, 10 Vining Street, Room 202, Boston, MA 02115. The period of performance is one year from date of contract award. The Contractor shall develop an interactive curriculum that educates providers about the unique needs of women of color and other underserved women to enhance the ability of the National Centers of Excellence in Womens Health to care for these women. The curriculum shall emphasize adult learning theories and include experiential, as well as didactic activities. Areas addressed shall include basic concepts of cultural competence; overview of the health status of minority and underserved women including historical perspectives, demographics and social status, health policy, and epidemiology; prevention and health behaviors; adolescent health; chronic disease management and treatment with a focus on cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and other common illnesses; elderly; violence; substance abuse; disabled women; family issues; communication and using; and assessing systems of care. Specifically, the Contractor shall identify CoE collaborators; identify and assess existing CoE curricula materials; develop educational objectives in culturally competent care of women from racial and ethnic minority groups and other medically underserved women; develop curriculum modules to address key educational objectives; develop faculty training strategies, trial test the curriculum for CoE faculty in a teaching cultural competence conference; finalize the curriculum using feedback from participants and develop dissemination strategies. The Harvard Center of Excellence in Womens Health, a third generation CoE, is uniquely qualified to lead this project based their strength and history to reach minority and underserved women in a culturally appropriate way. This requirement is an extension of Harvards CoE requirement to develop and evaluate culturally competent health care professional training in womens health and demonstrate effective methods for integrating a womens health curriculum into the institutions medical school education, residency and fellowship programs.. A firm-fixed price award shall be made under the terms of FAR Part 13 - Simplified Acquisition Procedures. No solicitation exists.
