- Description
- It is the intent of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to negotiate on a sole source basis under authority of FAR 6.302 with the University of Alaska - Anchorage for the professional services Consortium Library management and maintenance of the Artic health website resources. The Arctic Health Website is now available to the public at http://arctichealth.nlm.nih.gov. NLM is transferring the day-to-day management and maintenance of this web site to a local organization that has more experience and more interaction with the northern regions and with indigenous populations and their health issues. The Consortium Library will assume responsibility for managing and maintaining this resource. They will continue to add/expand and update the current arctic health web site to include more health topics affecting the arctic region, as well as to links related telemedicine web sites, links to research projects, surveillance, education, training and outreach activities in the arctic region. NLM will physically transfer the files containing the web site pages to the Consortium Library. The library or the University will provide the hardware and software for maintaining and managing a public web site with high quality response time. NLM will maintain links to the web site, as well. NLM will work with the Consortium Library to establish an advisory board for this web site. NLM will participate on that board, which will have authority to determine policy, priorities, and partnerships for the web site. The Consortium Library of the University of Alaska at Anchorage is uniquely qualified to perform these services. The Consortium Library works with researchers, state and local government agencies, and the Institute for Circumpolar Health Sciences to support their work and thus can call upon the expertise of these agencies and individuals as well as provide services to them. In addition, the Consortium Library of the University of Alaska at Anchorage has worked with NLM in conjunction to develop the Artic Health website since 2000.
