Description

The Air Force Metrology Calibration Detachment is considering the purchase of twenty (20) Triple Point of Water Maintenance Systems. This item will consist of an apparatus and Triple Point of Water Cell that will allow the PMELS to create and maintain the Triple Point of Water (TPW) for temperature calibrations for a period of time very efficiently and accurately. This method would require only minimal operator time and no external mediums or solutions to initiate the freeze. The TPW is one of the primary temerature reference points on the new Temperature Scale, ITS-90. This item will be used to verify the lab's Primary Temperature Reference Standard, the SPRT (Standard Platinum Resistance Thermometer) before and after each use. The TPW measurement is important since it is the reference point from which all further temperature calibrations are compared with. Used in this way, the TPW can verify the SPRT has drifted due to time, handling, or shipment. Also, the TPW Maintenance System can be used in other temperature calibrations that previously required the calibration technician to make an ice bath using distilled ice/water and an insulated dewar. The TPW shall be manufactured and maintained in the same apparatus. this procedure shall take place with minimum user intervention and without the use of external agents. Common size TWP cells up to 13 cm in length or 'mini' TPW cells around 9mm in length can be used. THIS ANNOUNCEMENT CONSTITUTES A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ONLY.
