Description
The Bear Lake Road project in Rocky Mountain National Park, Larimer County, Colorado, is tentatively scheduled for advertising in early 2003. This advanced notice is being given as weather and site conditions may prevent contractor viewing at the time of advertising for bids. A project showing is scheduled for Wednesday, September 25, 2002. Draft plans will be available for viewing at the project showing. Potential bidders should meet at 9 a.m. local time at the Visitor Transportation System (VTS) Parking Area located approximately 4.9 miles south of Bear Lake Road and Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. A question and answer session will be held following the site visit. The Bear Lake Road project begins at Station 17+500, approximately 4.6 miles south of the intersection of Bear Lake Road and Trail Ridge Road and continues 4.6 miles to the terminus of the road at Bear Lake Parking Area. The project consists of 3 separate but similar schedules: A- 5.945 km; B- 7.045 km; C- 7.345 km. The work consists of drainage, grading, retaining walls, aggregate base and asphalt surfacing. Four additive options will also be advertised. Option W - reconstruction of 0.275 km of Sprague Lake Road; Option X - Bear Lake, Glacier Gorge and Bierstadt Lake Facilities; Option Y - Moraine Park Shuttle Facilities; Option Z - reconstruction of 0.335 km of Sprague lake Road and reconstruction of Glacier Creek Bridge. Major bid items (largest schedule) include: lump sum contractor testing; 14.5 ha clearing and grubbing; 37,000 m3 roadway excavation; 310 m3 placed riprap (various); 1900 m2 reinforced concrete retaining wall; 250 each soil nails; 14,000 metric tons aggregate base; 52,500 m2 roadway aggregate method 2 (recycled asphalt pavement); 1,050 metric tons asphalt cement; 16,500 metric tons superpave asphalt concrete pavement; 420 m2 reinforced colored Portland cement concrete pavement; 400 m2 shotcrete; 25 each concrete headwall (various); 1,115 m pipe culvert (various); 28 each catch basins; 3,400 m underdrain system; 5,400 m colored Portland cement concrete curb and gutter; 2,200 m2 simulated stone surfacing; 1,500 m steel backed timber guardrail system; signing; pavement markings; seeding; mulching; placed conserved topsoil; erosion control; and traffic control. NOTE: ATTENDANCE AT THE PROJECT SHOWING IS NOT MANDATORY TO BID THE PROJECT, HOWEVER ATTENDANCE IS ADVISED.
