Description

NA Contract 2D1 is for construction of the portion of the Rio Puerto Nuevo flood control project in the vicinity of the De Diego Bridge. This solicitation includes a base and one option. The Contract 2D1 BASE work includes modifications to the bridge abutmen ts and piers required due to the widening and deepening of the existing channel for flood control. Drilled shafts will be added between existing piles of the abutments and piers, and shafts will be tied to the existing structure with new cast?inplace caps. Channel walls will be constructed of drilled shafts and cast?in?place columns with a concrete facing. Construction of debris protection for the piers is also included in this contract. Construction will be phased using an earth berm to dewater and work un der one side of the bridge at a time while maintaining by?pass flows through the other side. The government will construct the channel bottom under a separate contract. OPTION A consists of Outside Project Scope (OPS) work performed for the Puerto Rico Hi ghway and Transportation Authority (PRHTA). OPS work includes widening each span of the bridge to provide an additional lane of traffic in each direction. The design uses AASHTO Type V prestressed concrete girders for the new bridge spans. In addition, the contract includes repair and rehabilitation of the existing bridge deck. Estimated construction time is 810 calendar days after receipt of Notice to Proceed (NTP) if Base and Option A Bid Item are awarded. The estimated construction period for the base work is 450 calendar days and for the Option Bid Item A is 360 calendar days. Magnitude of construction is between $10,000,000 and $25,000,000. The solicitation will be issued on or about 15 November 2002 with bids due on or about 07 January 2003. Solici tation will be issued in electronic format only. Bidders will be provided a CD-ROM at no cost. Interested bidders must register electronically.
