Description
The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) announces opportunities for partnerships in cooperative research through our Cadet Summer Research Program for the summer of 2003. The program is designed to gives cadets real-world, hands-on research experience at the partners research facility. By working side by side with leading military, government, and civilian researchers, cadets learn to apply the knowledge they gained in the classroom in ways that greatly enhance their preparation to become Air Force officers. The research program is slated to last for five weeks beginning in late May and involves cadets who have completed three years of university education at USAFA. Some cadets will be allowed to expand their program to eight weeks. The partner typically pays for the cadet?s travel, per diem and lodging expenses. Exceptions to this are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. USAFA continues to pay the cadet?s salary and benefits. Non-federal agencies will execute a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement as defined in 15 U.S.C. 3710a where appropriate. Possible research areas are open-ended. Cadets in the following majors will participate in the program: Aeronautical Engineering Astronautical Engineering Basic Sciences Behavioral Science Biology Chemistry to include Biochemistry and Materials Science Civil Engineering Computer Science Economics Electrical Engineering Foreign Area Studies General Engineering Geography History Humanities Legal Studies Management Mathematical Sciences Mechanical Engineering Meteorology Military Doctrine, Operations, and Strategy Operations Research Physics Political Science Social Science Space Operations If interested, please send an email to Capt Tom Swoveland at thomas.swoveland@usafa.af.mil and include a detailed description of your proposed cadet research project and what academic majors you want to work with. Questions about the CSRP program can be directed to 719-333-1749.
