Description
The U.S. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Services (NOS), Hollings Marine Laboratory, Charleston, South Carolina intends to purchase a Robotic Colony Picking and Macro-Array. The minimum requirements for the Robotic Colony Picking and Macro-Arrayer are: (1) A high speed automated robotic system for imaging and picking microbial colonies capable of picking, gridding, replicating and re-arraying, pin self-sterilization and making colony or DNA macroarrays; (2) the entire system must be contained in a single floor standing unit.; (3) colony pick rate of 3500 colonies per hour is required and the ability to inoculate into pre-filled 96 or 384 well plates. The picking pins must each be individually actuated; (4) The picking head must be able to be rigorously cleaned and sterilized in up to 3 wash baths before the next cycle. A preferred sterilization method for the picking pins would be by use of a high temperature halogen pin drying system; (5) the system should be capable of picking plated bacteria (transformed E. Coli), phage plaques and yeast colonies; and (6) the system must incorporate a bar code reader to enable tracking of microplates within the system. This part of the system should be capable of validating both source and destination microplates against a pre-input series of microplate bar codes. This solicitation for commercial items will be issued on or about 1/9/02 . This procurement is unrestricted as to business size. The NAICS code is 423490. The small business size standard is 500 employees. This purchase will be made under the guidelines of FAR, Part 12, Acquisition of Commercial Items.
