- Description
- The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency-Advanced Technology Office (DARPA-ATO), and Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) Sensors Directorate will be Co-hosting a Tera Hertz Operational Reachback (THOR) Industry Day and Phase I Technology Review on 4 February 2003 at the Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, California. The purpose of the THOR Industry Day and Phase I Technology Review is to update industry and academia with the technology developments of the THOR program and allow discussions for Phase II initiation. The first amendment to the AFRL Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) 02-08-SNK, focusing on THOR Phase 2, is planned to be released prior to the THOR Industry Day and Phase I Technology Review Meeting. Information contained in the BAA announcement takes precedence over any information obtained from the Industry Day or any other sources. DARPA, DARPA-ATO and AFRL intend to further pursue enabling communications technologies via the THOR Communications Program. This THOR Industry Day and Phase I Technology Review is intended to provide potential sources with advanced information that may be useful in preparing proposals for the AFRL BAA 02-08-SNK amendment. The THOR initiative is developing mobile free-space optical hardware, system and networking technologies, and system concepts that extend the reach of the Global Information Grid (GIG). The program goal is an affordable link of terminals with an order of magnitude reduction in size, weight, and power over current available technologies. This effort requires the involvement of a wide variety of government joint and service laboratories and commercial technology development centers. AFRL BAA 02-08-SNK contains the list of enabling technologies that may be applicable to this project plus an overview of the THOR program phases. A web site has been established at http://www.schafercorp-ballston.com/thor2003/ that provides registration information, agenda, and information to be presented during the THOR Industry Day and Phase I Technology Review. Note: This announcement is only for the 4 February THOR Industry Day and is not for any follow-on government THOR Program Reviews. Badging and sign-in will available from 1600 hours until 1800 hours at the Doubletree Hotel, Monterey, California on 3 February 2003. It will also begin at 0700 hours on 4 February 2003 at the Naval Post Graduate School. Briefings will begin at 0800 hours and conclude at approximately 1800 hours. This meeting and briefings will be UNCLASSIFIED. One on one and team-building sessions will be available starting at 0900 hours to 1800 hours. These team-building sessions are being made available for contractor-to-contractor interaction only. No Government personnel will be involved in these team-building sessions. These sessions will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the meeting.
