Description
NA The 12th TACOM/Industry Logistics Symposium was held April 8-10, 2003. The theme was Logistics Transformation - Ensuring Relevance for the 21st Century Soldier. The event was held at the Northfield Hilton in Troy, MI. The TACOM-sponsored symposium broug ht together over 500 government and industry representatives to discuss issues and concerns relevant to the constant changes in the logistics environment. The Michigan Chapter National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) provides administrative support i n planning the event. The symposium morning and selected afternoon presentations were telecast live to TACOM-Warren, Rock Island, ARDEC and Watervliet Arsenal. It is estimated that over 200 government personnel viewed the proceedings by live telecast. The briefings, exhibits and break-out sessions emphasized many aspects of the Logistics Transformation within the Department of Defense and the Army. The Army is transforming to a force that is tactically and strategically responsive, interconnected, lethal ac ross the spectrum of conflict and with a reduced logistics tail. There is an ongoing revolution in logistical processes to meet the goals of the transformation. The Army will provide factory to foxhole support, integrated global support and improved situat ional awareness for the 21st Century Soldier. The speakers discussed the AMC Transformation, Performance Based Logistics, the Objective Force, Future Combat Systems and Joint Warfighting. The topics also covered the Defense Logistics Agency's global suppor t and the impact of strategic readiness on war planning. The symposium received rave reviews from the attendees and those viewing the proceedings by live telecast. The morning and afternoon presentations are proposed to be on the TACOM events by 28 April 0 3. Click on the following TACOM events website: http://contracting.tacom.army.mil/events/.
