- Description
- Seeking Small Businesses and 8(a) Contractors to Repair/Replace Main Switching Station (Project #TYMX 96-1016). The magnitude of this project is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. This project is an upgrade of the electrical infrastructure required to support the Air Education and Training Command (AETC) mission at Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The Main Base Switching Station, buildings B-1024 and B-1027, is located in the north portion of the base, in the area west of the main gate. It consists of two Allis Chalmers Types FC-500A1 air circuit breakers in a metal enclosed switchgear buildings. The four 13.2 KV distribution circuits, served from the City Public Service (CPS) Randolph Field Substation located off base across FM Hwy 78, provide the sources for the main switching station. This switching station feeds four other on-base switching stations as well as the East Wherry Housing and West Wherry Housing areas. This project will replace the existing medium voltage switchgear with two unit switching stations and a tie switch. Each switching station will be capable of supplying power to the entire base. New circuit breakers, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA), and fire protection will be installed as part of the new main switching stations. New 15KV circuit breakers will be vacuum types with electrical fault interrupting capabilities. The new switching station will be housed in building which is architecturally compatible with the base design standards and colors. Technical requirements: 1. Experience installing SCADA systems. 2. Experience in medium voltage cable hi-pot tests, pad mount transformer tests, and sectionalizing switch acceptance tests. 3. Experience pertaining to short-circuit and protective device coordination in medium voltage and low voltage, (13.8 kv and 600 v or less) distribution systems. 4. Five years experience working medium voltage electrical distribution projects workload.
