Description
A commercial pot fishing vessel with a minimum registered length of 150 ft is needed by the Alaska Fisheries Science Center to conduct cod pot research cruises. Gear handling and fishing machinery (pot-hauler, line-coiler, bait-chopper, cranes, etc) to be provided by vessel. All other fishing gear to be provided by the government. Government research pots are 7.5 feet by 7.5 by 36 inches and weigh about 1100 pounds. Vessel must have deck space and fishing machinery to handle 60 such pots, and provide space for catch sampling and cod tagging operations (which includes 6 permanently secured live tanks, each tank's footprint is about 5 feet by 5 feet). The vessel must provide source for sea water for live tanks. The tanks will be fully plumbed and will require a supply of fresh non-chlorinated seawater of 25 gallons or more per minute for each tank. The contractor shall provide an experienced crew that can operate the vessel safely and efficiently. At a minimum the crew shall consist of a captain, engineer, deck boss, another deck hand, and a dedicated cook. In addition to the vessel's crew, the boat must accommodate a scientific field party of 7, which will be comprised of men and women. The cruise schedule shall be as follows: Leg 1- Seven consecutive days any time between 1-25 September; Leg 2- Three days immediately following red king crab season; Leg 3 - 16 days beginning on or about December 27th; Leg 4 - 21 days beginning on or about March 13th. Options for continuation of this project in later years will be included in the contract. This is a full and open procurement.
