- Description
- NASA/ARC plans to issue a Request for Quote (RFQ) for a Mercury Xenon Lamp System to simulate the ultraviolet radiation heat flux of the aerocapture of Titan (Saturn's moon). Titan has a unique atmosphere that will produce very high levels of ultraviolet (UV) radiation in a vehicle's shock layer. A lamp system is needed that will provide the right level and wavelengths of radiation needed. The radiant source system will consist of a complete system of power, control, cooling, optics, and radiation source which will provide UV radiation from 300 nm to 450 nm, in order to provide continuous (non-pulsed) exposure giving 50-300 W/cm2 irradiance over a 5 cm2 spot (roughly 1-inch diameter area), for 50-200 seconds per run for at least 50 runs. This procurement is being conducted under Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. See note 26. This procurement is a total small business set-aside. See Note 1. The NAICS Code and Size Standard are 334516 and 500, respectively, The anticipated release date of RFQ2-38249-MXS is on or about August 22, 2003 with an anticipated quote due date of on or about Sept 2, 2003. All responsible sources may submit a quote which shall be considered by the agency. An ombudsman has been appointed - See NASA Specific Note "B".
