Description
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate with Fakespace Systems of Rockville, Maryland on a sole source basis under the authority of FAR Part 13.106-1(b), Soliciting from a single source, for an upgrade of an existing Reconfigurable Advanced Visualization Environment (RAVE). The current RAVE consists of two (2) 8'x8' rear projection display screens in a corner configuration. This upgrade will add a third projection surface onto the floor area between the two existing screens. The floor projection will add to the display area providing an improved capability giving the user significantly more immersion into the displayed data. To achieve the desired upgraded capability, the floor projection must be physically matched to the existing RAVE modules to allow them to operate in tandem and provide an optically continuous display surface. All of the RAVE module hardware is proprietary to Fakespace Systems. This equipment will be connected to and driven by an existing SGI (Silicon Graphics, Inc.) high performance graphics system. The software used for these purposes is dependent on the features of the RAVE, the SGI OpenGL Performer graphics library and the SGI Infinite Reality graphics hardware sub-systems. Thus, the equipment provided must operate in a turnkey manner and be 100% compatible with both the existing RAVE and the existing SGI system. Therefore, to be a complete turnkey system Fakespace Systems is the only source to fulfill this requirement since the RAVE module hardware is proprietary to Fakespace. Connection to the existing SGI hardware and integration with existing video drivers will be provided and installed by Fakespace as a part of the RAVE upgrade to make a complete turnkey system. The delivery time for this requirement is 60 days after receipt of order and the delivery shall be FOB Destination to Gaithersburg, Maryland. The Government anticipates awarding a firm-fixed price purchase order utilizing Simplified Acquisition Procedures under the Test Program for Certain Commercial Items. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit quotes by September 3, 2003. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. A Request for Quotation (RFQ) package is not available. A determination by the Government not to compete this requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Contracting Officer. For information, call the POC identified above.
