Description
NAICS Code: 541710 THIS IS A POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT FOR STUDENT LABORATORY SERVICES TO BE HIRED ON A CONTRACT BASIS BY THE US ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY. The solicitation number is XQ2A12. The Agency has a requirement for a student to work within a multi-disciplinary research team and provide technical laboratory support for research projects that characterize the effects of environmental stressors on aquatic vertebrate and invertebrate species. The projects for which the student contractor is needed involves understanding the effects of light reduction on sea grass growth efficiency, allocation of plant biomass to above ground and below ground compartments, and sediment geochemistry. The student will be expected to measure plant biomass parameters, and to prepare and analyze sediment, sediment porewater and overlying water samples for a suite organic and inorganic chemical analytes (pH, DOC, DIC, iron, ammonium, sulfate, sulfide, etc.). All samples will be analyzed according to specification, either in the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) manual or instructions provided by their mentor. The student must have completed a B.S. degree in chemistry, environmental science, or life science within the past year or be enroled as a graduate student in an accredited college/university. The student must be familiar with basic laboratory health and safety procedures. The student will be given additional safety training at the Gulf Ecology Division.
