Description
Notice to intent to issue RFQ on a sole source basis to BAI Aerosystems, Inc., Easton Maryland, for 1 ea Tern Aircraft consisting of the Tern UAV system without the ground station, control electronics, and payload. The required tern is an up-sized Fog-r aircraft with over the cowing engine to allow forward looking cameras unobscured views forward. It has a tri wheel landing with over the wing engine. The purchased aircraft is to be compatible in parts and size and flight characteristics to the instrumented TERN. Specification: Wingspan: 136 inches, Engine and wings shall be removable from the top of the frame as a single unit. Wings shall be removable from the engine cowling separately. Wings shall each contain ailerons and flaps. Height: 40 inches to tail top above the runway The plane shall taxi with the nose down and the tail up Length: 106.8 inches Empty weight: 95 pounds Maximum: 130 pounds Stall Speed: 45 mph or less maximum speed: 78 mph or greater Operational Endurance: 4 hours Engine: 100cc 2-stroke burning gas/oil mixture Landing Gear: Tricycle with main wheel brakes aft of the CG and a steerable nose wheel. The plane shall consist of the airframe, engine, fuel tanks, and servos with shielded wiring harness. The servos shall move the main control surfaces consisting of ailerons, flaps, elevator, rudder and the nose wheel and engine throttle. The plane shall have been test flown before the instruments are removed. The plane shall be identical to an instrumented plane before modification with instruments. Project is for the Naval Postgraudate School, Monterey, CA. A non-competitive procurement is anticipated utilizing Simplified Acquisition Procedures. Anticipated award date is 14 Sep 03
