- NA Market Research - Qualification Procedures for the Internal Ring Gear. The Internal Ring Gear, NSN: 3020-01-039-6903, Part Number: 12008250, SIC Code: 3562 is a source controlled item. The Drawings list the Source Controlled Vendors who have a qualified item that exclusively provides the performance characteristics and the installation interchangeable characteristics required for the specific, critical application of coupling the upper and lower carriage of the M198 Howitzer and providing the means for th e upper carriage to traverse. Failure of the Internal Ring Gear would result in catastrophic damage and could result in injury and/or death. The drawing for the Internal Ring Gear states that only the item described on the drawing, when procured from the vendor(s) listed hereon, is approved by the design agency, ARDEC, and a substitute item shall not be used without prior approval. Qualification procedures are currently available for interested contractors to become qualified and have their Company name added to the drawing as an approved source. The qualification procedures include a demonstration of the item incorporated into the M198 Howitzer. It is estimated that the qualification procedures for 6 Each Internal Ring Gears, to include fabrication and testing, could take 6 to 12 months at a minimum. Listed below are the requirements that a potential offeror must satisfy in order to qualify its product: (1) Physical configuration audit of all dimensions in an 'as received' pre-test configuration. Apply load testing at 4 different elevations in accordance with the data specified on drawing 12008250. The physical configuration audit includes material tes ting to confirm non-yield deformation of the item and subcomponents following applied load testing. (2) Static load testing in accordance with note 13, drawing 12008250, requiring 50,000 cycles at a temperature range of ??????65 degrees Fahrenheit to +145 degrees Fahrenheit. (3) The bearing shall be preloaded to limit axial displacement of the inner ring with respect to the outer ring when subjected to a reversing axial load of 700+/-25 pounds in each direction. Displacement shall be measured at three points approximately 12 0 degrees apart, then the inner ring rotated 60 degrees and measured again. No individual total displacement may exceed .0020, nor shall the average of all six total displacements exceed .0008 in accordance with note 14 of drawing 12008250. (4) The torque required to rotate the bearing under a static moment load of 9800 pounds at 44 inch radius shall not exceed 2800 inch-pounds break-away torque and 2600 inch-pounds running torque at 1/3 RPM and 70 degree Fahrenheit per not 15 of drawing 120 08250. (5) Deformation testing at a static load of 60,000 pounds applied at a 60 inch radius without permanent physical deformation in excess of .0003 inches in accordance with note 16 of drawing 12008250. This item is only produced for the Government by vendors qualified by the Government. This synopsis does not constitute a commitment by the Government to place a contract with anyone who submits an item for qualification testing.
