Description
The CH-46E Helicopter is a medium lift tandem rotor helicopter used by the United States Marine Corp for amphibious assault, transport, and medical evacuation. Current theatres of operations are exposing the aircrafts T58 engines to extreme environmental conditions. Sandstorms cause massive sand intrusion into the engine and its related components causing severe compressor blade erosion. For this reason, PMA 226, located at MCAS Cherry Point, N.C., intends to have a new covering system developed and fielded that will better protect the engines and related components against the harsh desert environment. Final product to be purchased via DoD EMALL www.emall.dla.mil (contact Jim Secrist (614) 692-7346) With initial delivery of approximatly 12 units by 30 Jan 2004. Total anticipated requirement of 36 units. 2.0 Requirements: The new CH-46E engine covering system shall consist of a cover or series of covers that will adequately protect the T58 engine and related components from sand intrusion. This covering system shall cover the engine inlets, exhausts, access panels, and the Engine Air Particle Separator (EAPS) exhaust. The covering system shall be easily installed and maintained. It should be durable and remain in place in a high wind environment. In addition, the covering system shall be stored and transported in a single container. The covering system shall meet or exceed all requirements for design laid out in SAE ?AS-5778. 3.0 Government Points of Contact: John D.
