Description
1.0 SUBJECT Request for Information (RFI) for an Electric Winch Hoist and Sling for WSR-88D Weather Radar Towers. Responses are due January 7, 2004. 2.0 DESCRIPTION The National Weather Service has a requirement for hoisting heavy equipment and supplies from the ground to the radome at NEXRAD WSR-88D weather radar sites. The National Weather Service is seeking information from industry that will assist in identifying suitable hoists and slings to meet this requirement. Specifically, this RFI seeks the following information: What off-the-shelf or modified off-the-shelf equipment is available that meets the requirements? What modifications are required to meet the requirements? How is the hoist supported (davit, frame, trestle, etc.)? What slings are available? What maintenance is recommended for the equipment? What is the approximate cost of the hoist, supports, slings, and accessories, including volume pricing? What is the availability or delivery schedule? What safety specifications does the equipment meet (document and paragraph)? . 3.0 REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Hoist 3.1.1 Capacity: 400 lbs. minimum, 3ft. cube (3x3x3) maximum 3.1.2 Hoist height: 104 ft. 3.1.3 Hook height above deck: 4 ft. minimum 3.1.4 Reach: 36 ?6 in. horizontally from the midpoint of the edge of the hatch opening 3.1.5 Mount: fit existing davit socket (3 1/16 in. ID x 6 3/4 in. deep), or use a new socket flush with the deck, or use a folding frame or trestle. Any means of securing the hoist support to the deck must be removable and leave no protrusions above the deck. Hoist and support must be easily mounted and dismounted by two persons. 3.1.6 Pivot or trolley: the hoist must pivot or trolley to position the hook a minimum of 24 in. from the hatch edge; the operator must be able to move the load horizontally without pulling on the load or reaching so that either eye is above the hatch opening. The force to move a 400 lb. load must not exceed 20 lbs. 3.2 Electric Winch 3.2.1 Power: 120 VAC, 13 A (maximum running current) 3.2.2 Motor: continuous duty 3.2.3 Brake: automatic on power loss, load holding 3.2.4 Drum: automatic cable guide 3.2.5 Speed: lift 400 lbs. 100 ft. in 3 min. or less 3.3. Controls 3.3.1 Control pendant: NEMA-rated, low voltage 3.3.2 Pendant cord: 6 ft. minimum 3.3.3 Power cord: 8 ft. minimum 3.3.4 Limits: automatic motor stop at upper hook limit 3.4. Slings 3.4.1 Load sizes: 1ft. cube (1x1x1) minimum, 3ft. cube (3x3x3) maximum 3.4.2 Load weight: 400 lbs. maximum 3.4.3 Environment: not affected by oil, water, or periodic solar UV radiation 4.0 DISCLAIMER This RFI is issued solely for informational and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation. Responders are solely responsible for all expenses associated with responding to this RFI.
