Description
Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), operated by Princeton University under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy, is seeking interested sources to provide rectangular, compacted copper conductor to be used by PPPL in the fabrication of a number of modular coils for the National Compact Stellerator Experiment (NCSX). The conductor will be fabricated using 34-gauge oxygen free copper wire. Its rope construction will be [12 x 5 x 44 x 34] with an external 0.004-inch thick nylon serve. Once cabled, the copper rope will be compacted to dimensions of 0.350 in. x 0.391 in. +/- 0.010 inches. [Note: dimensions include the nylon serve]. The supplier will then apply two (2) half-lapped layers of dry S-2 glass (supplied by PPPL) to provide insulation around the completed conductor. Lubricants cannot be used during the construction of the copper rope. The conductor must be produced in minimum of 200-foot continuous spools without splices. The maximum quantity to be procured is expected to be approximately 170 spools. PPPL desires to have the conductor delivered in mutually-agreed upon lots that support PPPL?s coil winding schedule. This announcement is not a request for proposals/request for quotations (RFP/RFQ). The RFP/RFQ, if any, will be issued on or about March 15, 2004. Statements of interest or questions concerning this sources sought announcement should be sent to Rodney D. Templon via email rtemplon@pppl.gov and must include the Company name and address and the name, telephone number, fax number and email address of the responsible point of contact for this action. Further information about PPPL and the NCSX project can be obtained from the PPPL public website at www.pppl.gov.
