Description
The National Institute on Aging (NIA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), has a requirement to develop, maintain, and distribute a large standing colony of aged hybrid rats for use by investigators in the studies of aging. This colony is to be developed and maintained within controlled and defined barrier environments where animals are monitored and characterized for disease status and markers of genetic purity. During the nine-year period of performance of this cost reimbursement contract, the expected colony population will range from 8,000 in the first year, to a peak of 20,000 in years 3 through 7, then declining to near 0 by the ninth year. This colony shall be divided into two approximately equal and separate segments maintained behind independent barriers, pathogen and parasite free, for the total nine year period. The Offeror should have facilities suitable for development and maintenance of the rat strains required for this project, along with experience in breeding, rearing, maintaining and distributing animal colonies of similar magnitude and having similar health, genetic, and environmental requirements. The Offeror should also have an awareness of problems and complications likely to be observed in the conduct of this project and methods to address them, particularly, the knowledge of the importance of maintenance of the high standard of health and genetic purity. THE SOLICITATION WILL BE AVAILABLE ELECTRONICALLY ONLY. It will be available on this website on or about 15 calendar days from the date of the publication of this synopsis. OFFERORS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ROUTINELY CHECKING THIS WEBSITE FOR ANY POSSIBLE SOLICITATION AMENDMENTS THAT MAY BE ISSUED. NO INDIVIDUAL NOTIFICATION OF ANY AMENDMENTS WILL BE PROVIDED. All responsible sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered. No collect calls will be accepted.
