Description
The U.S. Army, Office of the Program Manager Soldier Weapons and RDECOM-ARDEC, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ are seeking sources to procure an off-the-shelf, non- developmental 5.56mm 200-round Soft Pack Magazine for test and evaluation. There is potential for adoption and production for armed service use. The tactical employment of the 200-round Soft Pack will be to replace and/or supplement the current 200-round hard plastic ammunition magazine currently used with the M249/MINIMI. The main objective is to obtain a 200-round Soft Pack that will be more durable and provide improved retention to the weapon under field conditions while reducing ammunition ?rattling? noise levels when employed in a sustained combat environment. The 200-round Soft Pack must attach directly to the standard 5.56mm, M249 Squad Automatic Weapon and require no additional equipment or hardware for attachment. The 200-round Soft Pack shall be capable of carrying 200 rounds of linked 5.56mm NATO ammunition. The 200-round Soft Pack shall be comparable in size to the current hard plastic magazine, and should be re-usable a minimum of 50 times. The 200-round Soft Pack should not hinder the performance or comfort of the automatic rifleman nor shall it degrade the reliability of the weapon system or hinder the performance of the ammunition within. The 200-round Soft Pack shall be capable of storage and operation in hot, basic, and cold climates in accordance with U.S. Army Regulation 70-38. The 200-round Soft Pack shall contain no hazardous materials according to EPA 17. Please advise if your product is a commercially available item. Interested firms should submit literature/brochures not exceeding twenty (20) pages describing their technical capabilities and specifications, and systematically address each of the requirements listed above in response to the aforementioned criteria. This is a market survey not a pre-solicitation notice. There is no formal solicitation available at this time. If a formal solicitation is generated at a later date, a solicitation notice will be published. No award will be made as a result of this market survey.
