Description
This notice is for information purposes. The XM2 Gunfire Detection System is a stand-alone sensor system currently in service with the United States Special Operations Command and US contingency forces. It provides enhanced situational awareness to vehicular and ground personnel by its capability to rapidly locate the origin of threat gunfire from both vehicular platforms and stationary positions. It is currently a stand-alone sensor system. Based on mission and tactical informational requirements, i t is desired that a host FBCB2 equipped vehicle (i.e. HMMWV) be enabled to display threat gunfire information in the host vehicle only (not networked), or, networked. The Army Research Laboratory intends to conduct an integration study with Northrop Grumm an Mission Systems, Carson CA to assess the feasibility and hardware/software interface issues involved in integrating the XM2 Gunfire Detection System with the widely deployed FBCB2 system. ARL intends to closely cooperate with CECOM Fort Monmouth NJ, th e cognizant Army office responsible for managing, developing, logistically supporting and fielding the widely deployed FBCB2 System, one of the key building blocks of the Army's Digitized Battlefield. Any study contract awarded in relation to this announce ment may be issued by another cognizant Army Command/Agency such as CECOM, if it is determined that this approach would be more logical and expedient. This procurement is to be acquired on a sole source basis with Northrop Grumman Mission Systems.
