- Description
- The Crane Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center is seeking prospective sources for existing and future technologies for non-nuclear long-range high explosive munitions with enhanced lethality for gun/mortar caliber ranges from 105mm to 155mm. Of interest are both ammunition technologies that are functional with current United States Marine Corps (USMC) gun systems, and ammunition technologies that require a new gun/mortar component not currently in the USMC inventory, in which case special emphasis will be placed on weight reduction for mobility in accordance with the USMC Littoral Combat Doctrine. At a minimum, respondents should include technical information sufficient to conduct parametric evaluations and quantify design parameters for enhanced extended range conventional gun/mortar ammunition technologies and their sources currently in production or within 3, 5, or 10 years of fielding. Relevant information may include but is not limited to: barrel type, length, material, thickness and thermal characteristics, rifled and smooth bore considerations, rate of fire, propellant chemistry, overall system accuracy and precision. Both towed and mechanized technologies are of interest, as well as ammunition for both rifled and smooth bore guns. A special emphasis will be placed on producibility and projected per round/per system costs. The response should also include all relevant business information including ROM costs, and technical/contractual points of contact. The Government may choose to visit, or host a visit from, any potential sources following the initial response. This request for information in no way implies either implicitly or explicitly that respondents will be compensated in any way by the Government for information or materials provide d. It does not constitute a solicitation and should not be construed as a commitment of any kind by the Government to issue a solicitation or ultimately award a contract. All information provided becomes U.S. Navy property and will not be returned. All proprietary or classified information will be treated appropriately. Submissions are due at NSWC Crane on or before 31 March 2004.
