- Description
- This is a sources sought synopsis to solicit the interest of manufacturing sources for the production of the Sidewinder AIM-9M MK1 MOD 5 and MK1 MOD 2 Wing Assembly and Container. The Government intends to award a contract for this component of the AIM-9M Missile on a firm fixed-price basis. The Sidewinder AIM-9M Missile is a state of the art, air-to-air missile used by the USN, USAF and International forces on various fighter aircraft. The MK1 MOD 5 and MK1 MOD 2 Wing Assembly is approximately 2 feet long and 1 foot in height and consists of a machined, composition 2618 aluminum structural forging with aluminum honeycomb core and skin coated with a non-ablative thermal coating. The wing also contains mechanical dampers, rolleron and cager assemblies, which act to minimize missile roll during free flight. The Wing Assembly requirement has tooling and test equipment costs that must be incurred by a company that does not have the specific equipment. The technical data package (TDP) for the Wing Assembly and container is UNCLASSIFIED. Potential sources may request a copy of the TDP from the Sidewinder Technical Office located at the Naval Air Warfare Center-Weapons Division (NAWC-WD), China Lake, California by contacting Ms. Carolyn Smith (commercial (760) 939-8488 or email carolyn.m.smith@navy.mil. Those Contractors, after reviewing the specific TDP’s, who believe they possess the demonstrated expertise and experience in the manufacture and production of the above specified components shall submit a statement of their capabilities along with documentation of their security clearance to: Commander, Naval Air Systems Command, 47123 Buse Road, Suite 453, Attn: Ms. Ruthann O’Connell, AIR-2.2.1.4.1, Patuxent River, MD 20670-1547, no later than 1 March 2004. Interested firms shall indicate whether or not they are a large business, small business, or small disadvantage business with their statement of capabilities. This synopsis is for informational and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation for bid or proposals, and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government.
