Description
The National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) has a requirement for a RF-powered Plasma Atom Source designed to produce a beam of neutral atoms from a supply gas of O2, N2 or H2. This instrument will be operated in an ultra high vacuum environment and should therefore be mounted on a 4.5" Conflat vacuum flange (NW63CF). This atom source should have ion deflection plates for capturing residual ions in the beam, thereby providing an atom beam free of unwanted ions. The source should also be easily upgrade- able to provide for ion extraction by the addition of extraction optics and a grid power supply. The unit should be water-cooled and have an in-vacuum length of approximately 290-300mm. The unit shall be supplied with a ~500 W (max. power), 13.56MHz RF supply, with manual tuning and variable output power with cables. This unit shall be supplied with an integral beam shutter, and high precision variable leak valve with a 1/4" Swaglok fitting on the gas supply side of the valve. It is the intent of the Government to award this procurement on a sole source basis under authority of 41 U.S.C.253(c)(1) with SPECS Scientific Instruments, Inc., of Sarasota, FL. This procurement is being conducted per FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures (NTE $100,000). This synopsis is issued for information only. No competitive solicitation is planned. No award will be made on the basis of requests in response to this notice. Terms & Conditions and agency level protest procedures can be found on web site http://oamweb.osec.doc.gov/conops/#REFERENCE. Information submitted in response to this notice will be used solely to determine whether or not use of competitive procedures to fulfill this requirement would be in the Government's best interest and must address qualifications pertinent to this requirement. These are the complete specifications and no RFQ is available. All technical questions shall be addressed to Dustin Hite of NIST at 303 497-4360. This RFQ will expire March 16, 2004.
