Description
The U. S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) and the Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO-STRI) are developing a New Generation Army Targetry System (NGATS) to replace existing target systems on live fire ranges. The NGATS will be made up of families of interchangeable targetry components that provide the required performance at a low life cycle cost. Current communication design methods utilize both the Ethernet (TCP/IP) and the RS-485 (HDLC) physical me dia (protocol). The Government desires a design change for use of only the Ethernet (TCP/IP) physical media and protocol. This change will require new message set implementation and may require data connector keying changes to Battlefield Effects Device (B ED) manufactures and Representation Device (RD) manufactures. Seeking information from Industry regarding the impact this change may have on the current baseline or system configuration, the Government will accept industry input through March 31, 2004. I ndustry input will assist the Government in making a final decision regarding the change. Revised BED and RD device Interface Control Documents (ICDs), if required, will be released, no later than two weeks after the decision is made. Request the impact i nformation be sent to don.catlett@redstone.army.mil or steve_wright@peostri.army.mil
