Description
The Bureau of Indian Affairs is interested in the procurement of Storage Area Network and Network Attached Storage Equipment in Order to Support the National Consolidation of Data and Migration to One Centrally Managed Network Operating System That Supports Data Replication to Ensure Continuity of Operations. Indian Affairs (IA) has identified the need to expand existing Storage Area Network (SAN) capabilities that are presently being utilized to store data for the IRMS system. The IRMS system is the primary application used to track trust monetary ownership. This system has recently been upgraded from an older UNISYS NX Series to new UNISYS CS7201 systems utilizing EMC Symetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) technology to replicate data on the system to a duplicate system in the Indian Affairs Disaster Recovery Site in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A consolidated network migrated to one network operating system would allow for the implementation of a unified directory service that would increase internal communication, security, and provide the ability to backup all data to a single location that would allow for effective continuity of operations and disaster recovery. Indian Affairs (IA), Office of the Chief Information Officer, Office of Information Architecture and Engineering (OIAE) is responsible for provision of a unified directory service that is in compliance with Indian Affairs Enterprise Architecture (EA) and which provides the agency the ability to effectively collaborate internally, within the Department of the Interior, and with the Public. In an effort to simplify operations, reduce data entry, improve data accuracy and security, and to reduce the complexity facing computer users, best practices stipulate that directory enabled applications and Directory Services within a modern network operating systems be designed and deployed. Indian Affairs has recently upgraded Wide Area Network (WAN) connectivity by migrating to a Very High Performance Network Backbone System (VBNS+), and utilizes TCP/IP v.6 as the only protocol within the VBNS+. The upgrade of the existing UNISYS and SAN solution to include more SAN capacity to provide storage capacity for newer ORACLE database systems and to provide for consolidated file storage of all Indian Affairs data by adding Network Attached Storage (NAS) in one centrally managed storage system will provide for proper retention of all IA data as well continuity of operations in any disaster scenario as mandated by federal laws and regulations pertaining to maintaining the security and integrity of federal and Indian trust data.
