- Description
- The work on this project will consist of restoring wetlands on two sites in Clay County, Iowa as shown in the contract drawings. Work at the Carper site will consist of 11 acres of shallow water excavation to increase the amount of water on the easement area. The majority of the excavation will be in the Muck soil that includes the oxbow and lower soil on the interior of the oxbow loop. Most of the excavations will be located where the natural ground surface is less than 1.3 feet above the permanent pool elevation set by an existing weir. Excavations not in the oxbow will be connected to the oxbow by swales. The spoil material will be placed next to the excavations in spoil piles not more than 3 feet high. At the Sieh site, the 40 acres of shallow water excavation will be in the flood plain of the Little Sioux River. The soils excavated will include Biscay, Cylinder, Glencoe, Wabash, and Wadena. The excavations will range from 0 to 3 feet deep with an average depth of about 1-foot. The spoil will be placed adjacent to the excavations in mounds not to exceed 3 feet in height. Equipment such as dozers, or excavators, scrapers and low ground pressure dozers is expected to be used to complete the shallow water excavations. Performance time is 68 days for the entire project. Range of cost for this project is $25,000 to $100,000. Proposals from contractors will be evaluated on contractor technical capabilities, past performance, and price. Contractors will be required to submit an Experienced Questionaire along with their bid proposal.
