Description
The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is seeking possible sources for chiller water piping work to be done at the National Mine Health and Safety Academy at Beaver, West Virginia. Work includes, but is not limited to the description below(*). The purpose of this notice is to obtain ?ballpark estimates? for budgetary purposes to be used to develop a request for proposals (RFP) or request for quotes (RFQ). Estimates, which will remain confidential, are to be submitted subsequently to an on site visit, to be scheduled on an agreeable date to interested parties. NOTE: No more than two alternate dates will be scheduled. Interested parties should submit a company profile, including such information as technical and management capabilities and a list of previous/current projects of a similar nature. Interested parties may respond electronically by close of business June 18, 2004 to och.william@dol.gov or fax to 304-256-3332 or mail information to MSHA, William Och, 1301 Airport Road, Beaver WV 25813. (*)The air-conditioning system currently in use at the National Mine Health and Safety Academy located in Beaver, West Virginia utilizes a chilled water system with return and supply lines from the Chiller Room located in the B-Building Section of the complex. The pipe that was originally installed was malleable iron. During the last 28 years, the insulation on the pipes has broken down, which allows the vapor barrier to be lost and causes a sweating problem with the piping in A-Building. In A-Building, which is the Dormitory Wing of the Academy complex, the air-conditioning system is in operation 24/7 during the summer months. The pipes and fittings are deteriorating presenting a hazard and could begin leaking. A leak in the air-conditioning system could require a complete shutdown of the Dormitory Wing . As a result, the dormitory rooms would be out of service until repairs could be completed. The malleable iron pipe will be replaced with copper pipe and insulated. Considerable demolition of the sheetrock walls is necessary to gain access to the piping. The services of carpenters, sheetrock workers, and painters are required for repairs to the sheetrock walls located in the dormitory rooms and hallways in A-Building. The pipe has been replaced in two levels of this building during fiscal year 2003, with approximately one-third of the work completed. We are now interested in obtaining a ?budgetary? quote from various companies to complete this project.
