Description
The Mountainair Ranger District, Cibola National Forest, has a requirement for tree thinning and slash treatment for 311 acres. The purpose of work is to improve the overall health and condition of the stands, to improve wildlife habitat, and to reduce fire and fuels hazards through reduction of tree density and subsequent slash treatment. Tree selection and cutting of undesirable or excess trees will provide space for the leave trees to grow and develop, reduce undesirable tree qualities, and reduce ladder fuels. Hand (chainsaw) cutting is the preferred option for this contract. Slash treatment would consist of lopping and scattering in Units A-D and hand-piling in Unit E and 12 acres in Units A-D material created through the thinning operation. The contractor shall, considering given resource objectives for the work unit, develop a plan of operation to accomplish these objectives, and organize and direct all of the equipment and personnel needed to fully accomplish the work. The contractor shall furnish all technical expertise, labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, operating supplies, and incidentals necessary to complete the work required. Bids shall be determined on a per acre basis for each unit and specified slash treatment. No extra payment or deduction of payment will be made for acreage variation within plus or minus five percent of determined acreages. It is the prospective bidder’s responsibility to determine the amount of work necessary to thin and treat slash within the contract time specified in accordance with the contract specifications, within the boundaries of the project area. Work performed in any contracts resulting from this solicitation shall be in compliance with the environmental documentation for this project.
