- Description
- The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) has a requirement to purchase a 6.0mm Triple Resonance HXY MAS Solids Probe, 400 MHz from Varian Inc., 3120 Hansen Way, Palo Alto, CA 94304. The NMR probe shall meet the following specifications: 1) The probe shall be compatible with the dimensions and field strength of an existing Oxford Instruments wide-bore 9.4 Tesla magnet. 2) The probe shall be compatible with the hardware and software for control of sample spinning rates and sample temperature in an existing Varian InfinityPlus spectrometer. 3) The probe design shall permit changing of frozen samples at low temperatures without any need to warm up the probe or samples during sample changes and without accumulation of ice that interferes with sample spinning. 4) Sample volumes shall be at least 240 microliters. 5) NMR measurements in the temperature range from -150 C to + 50 C shall be possible. 6) Sample spinning rates up to at least 9.0 kilohertz shall be possible, with stability better than one part per thousand. 7) The probe shall be capable of NMR signal detection in the 100-162 MHz frequency range on the X channel and the 40-107 MHz frequency range on the Y channel. The H channel shall operate at 376 MHz and 400 MHz frequencies. 8) The probe shall operate in double-resonance and triple-resonance modes. In triple-resonance mode, the probe shall achieve radiofrequency field strengths of 64 kHz or higher for at least 65 milliseconds on the H channel, 64 kHz or higher for at least 15 milliseconds on the X channel with carbon-13 observation, and 44 kHz or higher for at least 15 milliseconds on the Y channel with nitrogen-15 observation. In double-resonance mode, the probe shall achieve radiofrequency field strengths of 67 kHz or higher for at least 65 milliseconds on the H channel and 67 kHz or higher for at least 15 milliseconds on the X channel with carbon-13 observation, or 47 kHz or higher for at least 15 milliseconds on the X channel with nitrogen-15 observation. 9) Carbon-13 detection sensitivity, measured on the methyl carbon signal from a full rotor of unlabeled hexamethylbenzene at 3.3 kHz spinning speed in four scans, shall be at least 365:1 in double-resonance mode and 243:1 in triple-resonance mode. The Institute intends to purchase this equipment by other than full and open competition from Varian, Incorporated. To the best of the Governments knowledge they are the sole manufacturer and distributor of this equipment. Interested vendors may identify in writing their interest with a capability statement to the Contracting Office prior to the closing date of this notice. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals, however, all responses received, before the closing date, of this announcement will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed acquisition is based upon responses to this notice and is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. It is anticipated that Request for Quotation (RFQ) NIH-NIDDK-04-288 will be available fifteen (15) days after the publication date of this synopsis. Receipt of quotations will be due ten (10) days after the release of the RFQ. The anticipated award date is September 15, 2004. Request for copies of the RFQ must be in writing and may be FAXED to 301-480-4226. Quotations must be submitted in writing to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases 6707 Democracy Blvd., Room 774C, Bethesda, Maryland 20817 Attention: Patricia Haun. FAX quotations must contain offerors names, address, telephone number and fax number. FAX quotations will only be accepted if dated and signed by an authorized company representative.
