- The Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service, Southeast Regional Office (SERO) in St. Petersburg FL, requires services for an Outreach Fishery Liaison. The purpose of this position is to work toward increasing and improving communications with commercial fishermen and ensure their understanding or marine mammal take reduction plan requirements. Further it is intended to achieve their cooperation and compliance with voluntary, non-regulatory, as well as regulatory portions of the two existing Atlantic Take Reduction Plans (TRPs) and the upcoming bottlenose dolphins (TRP) from North Carolina to the Atlantic coast of Florida. The location of the position is flexible, but ideally would be located in North Carolina to cover the area from North Carolina to the Atlantic coast of Florida. The duration of this project is 12 months. Tasks will include developing outreach materials; meeting with fishers along all major fishing ports; travel to attend meeting; developing and distributing region specific outreach materials; developing, fostering and maintaining partnerships with the fishing industry; coordinating closely with the SER bottlenose dolphin coordinator, SER right what conservation program coordinator and the Northeast Fishery Liaison; providing workshops and dockside meetings to help fishermen understand TRP?s; gathering input from fishermen on potential gear modifications, alternative gear deployment methods, gear research opportunities; implementing outreach efforts related to the Atlantic Large Whale TRP to prevent entanglement or endangered right whales; and developing outreach products as described in the bottlenose dolphin TRP. The contractor will be reimbursed for travel costs in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations. The contractor shall deliver monthly reports.
