Description
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is conducting market research for information purposes only. The purpose of this notice is to identify potential sources capable of providing Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) Instruments for Quality Control work. These FTIR units will be equipped with a dedicated Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR) sampling crystal for the determination and assay of raw ink samples in the Bureau?s Ink Laboratories. The FTIR-ATR instruments need to be rugged, reliable and available at a low-cost to the Government. The instruments will be used in a Quality Control environment by a variety of trained individual QC chemists. The BEP desires user-friendly software control that can be made secure in a Quality Control environment. The BEP desires to have vendors demonstrate their particular instruments so that optimal conditions may be determined for the particular uses of interest to the BEP. The exact nature of the ATR crystal to be used remains unknown, therefore, in these demonstrations the BEP is interested in experimenting with different ATR crystals. These differences may include such things as type of crystal, effective path length, etc as appropriate. This is a SOURCES SOUGHT announcement only. Solicitations are not available at this time, and as such any request for a solicitation will not receive a response. This notice does not constitute a commitment by the Government. At this point, the BEP does not intend to set up a contract for this equipment, but would like to receive comments or draft specifications and pricing as part of a market research to determine interest and capability of potential sources for this requirement. All information submitted in response to this announcement is voluntary; the Government will not pay for information requested nor will it compensate any respondent for any cost incurred in developing information provided to the Government. Interested parties who wish to put on a demonstration of their equipment, or have questions/comments should call or e-mail Michele R. Winston at (202) 874-2183 or michele.winston@bep.treas.gov.
