Description
The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, intends to enter into a single source contract with Percival, Perry, Iowa. This contract is to procure three Percival Scientific Biological Incubators, Model I-66LL, which will be used with and back-up for three Government-owned Percival I-36LL Biological Incubators and two Government-owned Percival I-66LL Biological Incubators at the National Center for Genetic Resources Preservation (NCGRP). These incubators are used for long-term storage of plant tissue culture materials as well as experimentation to develop techniques for the long-term preservation of plant material. The long-termed storage of the tissue culture material is part of the germplasm collection and extremely valuable. Consistency and reliability of the incubators is key to preventing loss of plant material due to incubator failure. Consistency is needed between the units to allow the movement of plant material from one chamber to another with a minimum of variation in the environment. This is most critical with experimental material as all experiments are geared toward long-term storage and often run 12 months or more. A single disruption in temperature after 10 months can jeopardize more than an entire years worth of work as it often takes months to bulk-up plant material to initiate an experiment. The NCGRP serves as a germplasm repository for the entire nation, maintaining over 1500 accessions in tissue culture including Plant Varietal Protection voucher samples, which the NCGRP is entrusted with. These incubators have capability for connection to a remote alarm and a control system that is compatible with the NCGRP remote monitoring and alarm system. *Please FAX a Qualification Statement by Close of Business September 9, 2004, to the attention of Lee Shea at 970/492-7031 if interested in this procurement.
