Description
The Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) attends to award on a sole source basis a delivery order to The Gallup Organization, 901 F Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20004. The Gallup Organization will conduct for BJS an International Crime Victimization Survey and deliver the data set to the designated audience upon completion. This data set will be produced by an international survey and a random survey of 2,000 households that will be interviewed in the United States about experiences (if any) with assault, sexual assault, robbery, burglary, motor vehicle theft, and theft during the last 12 months. The Gallup Organization survey produces the only statistics on crime and crime rates that are genuinely comparable from one country to another. This endeavor to measure crime across countries has the support of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Analyses of data from previous surveys have been published in academic books and have been presented in papers given at national and international criminological meetings. The Bureau of Justice Statistics will use the data from this survey to compare experiences of crime in the United States with those of more than 30 other countries. At no time, either during the four previous ICVS projects (conducted by INTEVIEWNSS, a company that is no longer in business), or during the period that Gallup Organization has engaged in the activities for the 2004 version, has any other entity produced any statistics on victimization that could be used to compare countries with each other. The Gallup Organization is internationally recognized as the sole source of this information. Attempts on the part of the United States to obtain equivalent data from other sources would not be either futile and would probably cost in the millions. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR QUOTATION.
