Description
1 each ENERGY DISPERSIVE X-RAY ANALYSIS (EDXA) SPECTROSCOPY SYSTEM 1. System Description: 1.1 This statement of work covers the acquisition, installation and personnel training for a new EDXA system used to perform chemical analysis by energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) on a specimen being examined with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). 1.2 The system shall be capable of interfacing with and controlling the WR-ALC/ENFM LEO 435 VP SEM to allow real time column control, digital signal processing and data acquisition in the form of secondary electron micrographs, corresponding EDXA spectra, line scans, and chemical elemental maps. Both qualitative and quantitative (standard and standardless) spectroscopy is to be performed by the system on all elements of atomic number 5 (Boron) and above. 2. System Principal Components: 2.1 Microanalysis system hardware; including detector-to-SEM mounting hardware, detector, preamplifier, digital pulse processor, cables, data acquisition and microscope control interface electronics. 2.2 New personal computer (system computer) to run application software and for data acquisition, processing and storage. Minimum 2.4 GHz Pentium IV processor, 512 memory cache, 512 Mb RAM, 40 GB hard drive, CD-R/W drive, 6 USB ports, serial and parallel ports. Monitor shall be minimum 17 inch LCD flat panel display. Must run/utilize Microsoft XP Professional operating system and must include Microsoft Office Professional software for report generation. 2.3 Application software with imaging, mapping, line scan, and spectral annotation and manipulation. 2.3.1 Spectral/image data acquisition must have one-button initiation capability with fundamental analytical tools such as cursor energy, peak energy, automatic and manual peak identification and labeling, scroll-through periodic table with peak identification labeling, and user definable attributes such as spectra colors and energy windows. 2.3.2 Software must perform both standard and standardless elemental quantification in both atomic and weight percentage via a ZAF or modified ZAF algorithm. The quantification algorithm must allow for user inclusion or deletion of analyzed elements. 2.3.3 Software must be able to perform user initiated automatic sum peak, escape peak, and background removal, and perform Gaussian deconvolution of overlapped peaks. 2.3.4 System must be capable of simultaneously acquiring and processing a minimum of 15 x-ray signals. 2.3.5 The system must have the capability to simultaneously acquire video signals and a minimum 15 EDS spectra, and include fast mapping capability. 2.3.6 Software must provide secondary electron video image screen capture and image annotation. Software must be able to store data in JPEG format. 2.3.7 The software must have a report generation capability that will send and store all data, spectra, images and any other results to Microsoft Office Professional Format (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). 2.3.8 Any future system software upgrades and performance enhancements will be provided without charge to WR-ALC/ENFM via web downloads or in CD format via US postal service. 2.4 Digital imaging interface for electron microscopes with signal input. The system must have a minimum image resolution capability of 4k pixels by 4k pixels. Imaging system must support both frame averaging and point averaging for image resolution enhancement. 2.5 EDS liquid nitrogen cooled thin window Si(Li) doped detector (minimum 10mm2 surface area with mounting hardware to properly mount to and interface with the appropriate vacuum chamber port on the WR-ALC/ENFM LEO 435 VP SEM. The detector shall have light element detection capability (atomic number Z=5 and above) with a minimum full width half maximum (FWHM) resolution of 135 ev at Mn k alpha at 5.898 Kev. Peak to background ratio shall be minimum 15,000 to 1. The detector window must have built-in warm up protection and must survive routine venting of SEM chamber to atmospheric pressure. 2.6 Attached dewar with minimum 10 liter liquid nitrogen capacity and low LN2 sensor and alarm/warning system. 2.7 Microscope column communication software, including read/write of selected parameters. Column software and system shall be completely compatible with and interface to the EDX external control panel of the WR-ALC/ENFM LEO 435 VP SEM. 3. Installation Package: 3.1 Installation and interface with the WR-ALC/ENFM LEO 435 VP SEM. 3.2 System calibration, performance specification testing, and FWHM of Mn k alpha peak energy resolution determination. 3.3 On-site product orientation and basic system operation class to WR-ALC/ENFM laboratory personnel. 3.4 One factory based-training course for a WR-ALC/ENFM person to be attended within one year of site installation. 4. Warranty 4.1 The entire EDXA system will come with a minimum one-year (12 months) parts and labor warranty that starts upon installation of the system. 4.2 The manufacturer will provide unlimited toll-free telephone technical support within 24 hours when called with a system problem or technical EDS question ? for the life of the system. 4.3 The manufacturer will dispatch service personnel within 3 working days of notification of a system problem to WR-ALC/ENFM to perform system repairs within the warranty period and at no additional cost to the government.
