- Description
- The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Center for Cancer Research (CCR), plans to procure Pathology specimens, (normal breast tissue samples) from Suburban Hospital, 8600 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda, Maryland 20814. The supplies and services herein are being procured in accordance with the simplified acquisition procedures authorized in FAR Part 13. The North American Industry Classification System Code is 541990 and the business size standard is $6M. The Center for Cancer Research, National Cancer Institute, is interested in defining the molecular profile of normal breast tissue from pre-and post-menopausal women of varying parity and in different phases of the menstrual cycle using genomic and proteomic techniques with the ultimate goal of identifying markers for cellular subtypes that could serve as therapeutic targets or biomarkers for prevention trials. Suburban Hospital Cancer Center can provide the NCI pathology normal breast tissue samples, primary breast and metastatic lesions, and pleural fluid from pre- and post-menopausal women. Suburban Hospital is capable of providing ample tissues based upon the treatment of a large number of female patients with normal breast tissue through mammoplasties or lumpectomies. Access to this population will allow the NCI to receive the number of samples necessary to perform molecular profiling analysis. Suburban Hospital is the only source known with a patient population that is a reliable source for the type and number of specimens required. Moreover, the physical proximity of Suburban Hospital to the NIH campus ensures the rapid delivery of fresh and frozen patient samples and supporting documentation to the NCI research laboratories in Building 10 that are processing the samples. The requirement is particularly important for the transport and delivery of fresh pleural fluid samples from which viable cells are isolated immediately for FACS analysis and animal studies. This is not a request for competitive quotation. However, if any interested party believes it can perform the above requirement, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The statement of capabilities and any other furnished information must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can perform this requirement. Capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 1:00 PM EST, September 15, 2004. If you have any questions they must be submitted in writing to Malinda Holdcraft, Purchasing Agent, at holdcram@exchange.nih.gov or by fax 301-402-4513. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Solicitation number must be cited on all correspondence, NCI-40148-NG.
