Description
Provide all labor, supervision, materials, and equipment to construct four segments of hollow tile core wall with rock facing to form a Lava Rock Wall in four segments at Kilauea Military Camp on the Island of Hawaii The four segments will be approxi mately 204 feet, 180 feet, 178 feet and 134 feet in accordance with attached drawings and maps. Description of Work: Foundation to be twenty four inches wide, eight inches deep, with footing on prepared surface of appropriately compacted aggregate with t he top surface to be no less than six inches below existing grade. Foundation will have minimum of four reinforcing bars of one half inch nominal diameter running entire length of foundation, spaced about six inches on centers and cross tied every four f eet. Core wall shall be a double row of hollow tile, with conventional brick pattern double staggered joints, with vertical reinforcing bars every four feet and one horizontal reinforcing bar every two courses, tied to vertical reinforcing bars. Complete d core wall will be filled with standard compression concrete. Foundation and core wall shall be positioned such that core wall will be centered on the existing pillars at the driveway. When the wall is faced, there shall be an even amount of the rounded rock footing or toes facing the existing pillars. The segments will terminate at a distance of three feet from the existing pillars and one foot from existing road or sidewalk with the same scalloped toe type feature on each end of each segment. Face of the wall shall be flat face, random shape lava rock a minimum of three inches thick, with color and surface texture and porosity to match the existing pillars as much as possible (see photographs). Rock facing will be grouted with a dark colored grout or concrete mix, such that the color and reveal approximates that of the existing pillars as much as possible (see pictures). Finished wall to be thirty six inches tall, corresponding to the average slope of the existing terrain and landscaping. Constructi on to be accomplished with minimum disruption of existing landscaping with removal and storage of existing sod for replacement on site after wall is completed. Discovery of any historical feature of artifact must be reported to the contracting officers rep resentative immediately without further disruption of the finding. Execution of the entire project is subject to final approval by the Hawaii State Historical Preservation Office. Accomplishment of the entire project is to be in accord at all times with Department of Interior compliance standards.
