- The Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences Psychiatrist on Duty (POD) is an intermittent fee-basis position who provides coverage on the off-tours, i.e. 16 hours weekday or 24 hours on holidays and weekends. The provider will be paid at an hourly rate commensurate with his/her level of experience in conducting psychiatric assessment and treatment. The incumbent should provide a minimum of 16 hours of duty per month. This position requires a physician who has completed at least 3 years of psychiatry residency training and has experience in performing psychiatric evaluation, consultation and treatment in adult patients. The psychiatrist must also have experience in diagnosing a broad range of psychiatric disorders. The successful bidder must be able to be privileged by the medical staff of VA New Jersey Health Care System to conduct psychiatric evaluation, consultation and treatment During the assigned tours of duty, the physician must provide: 1. psychiatric evaluation and determine disposition and treatment for veterans requesting emergency mental health services. 2. psychiatric consultation to the medical/surgical units 3. psychiatric evaluation and treatment for veterans on the psychiatry inpatient and residential units 4. Admission history and physical examination for veterans admitted to psychiatry inpatient services through the emergency room. 5. Physical examination and medical assessment as needed for veterans on psychiatry inpatient and residential services 6. provide clinical supervision as needed to psychiatry residents The physician must follow the guidelines set forth in the VANJHCS Medical Center Memorandums, MH & BS Policies and Standard Operating Procedures. The physician must complete any requested employee education and training relevant to VA Policies and Procedures in a timely manner. The physician?s work will be monitored by the ACOS/MH&BS or his/her designee for quality assurance purposes and he/she will receive annual proficiency reports.
