Description
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI) ONLY FOR PLANNING PURPOSES. THERE IS NO SOLICITATION PACKAGE AVAILABLE. This is a request for information only as defined in FAR 15.201(e). The government does not presently intend to award a contract, but wants to obtain information on commercially available applications. Responses to this notice are not offers and cannot be accepted by the Government to form a binding contract. The Air Warfare Battlelab (AWB), Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, is planning to conduct a study that will evaluate commercial options to solve the following problem: Currently, United States Air Force deploys various types of mobile communications shelters around the world to support steady state and contingency operations. These shelters and the associated communications equipment inside of them are subjected to extreme heat when deployed to desert and tropical climates. Environmental Control Units (ECUs) are employed to counteract the effects of the heat, but at times fail due to the high surface temperatures of the shelters. The AWB is interested in existing Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) products, technologies, or solutions that could be used as-is or slightly modified to solve this problem of high surface temperatures. These attributes are desired requirements by the USAF: 1. Reduce solar effects on shelter 2. Conform to existing shelter footprint of varying sizes. Accommodate S-250 shelter (7 ft 3in L x 6ft 7in W x 5ft 10in H) up to and including 20 ft ISO shelter (19ft 11in L x 8ft W x 8ft H) 3. Customizable on site by military technicians to conform to varying antenna placements on shelters 4. No major internal or external modification to the shelter These attributes are considered beneficial but not necessary by the USAF: 1. Subdued color pattern of either desert tan or camo green. The AWB is seeking the following specific information from industry representatives: 1. The manufacturers suggested retail price for the commercial product. 2. The name of distributors who could sell to the Government. 3. The degree to which the product can meet or exceed the above desirable and beneficial attributes of the USAF. 4. Your interest to demonstrate your product. Requested information must be submitted NO LATER THAN 6 Nov 04 to MSgt Brian Marinelli, Air Warfare Battlelab, 360 Gunfighter Ave, Suite 1, Mountain Home AFB, ID 83648. MSgt Brian Marinelli can be reached at (208) 828-3539; brian.marinelli@mountainhome.af.mil. A formal solicitation MAY NOT BE ISSUED as a result of this RFI. Information provided may or may not be included in a formal solicitation. The USAF will not release any information -- marked with a Proprietary legend -- received in response to this RFI to any firms, agencies, or individuals outside the USAF without written permission in accordance with the legend.
