Description: Hayden Creek Mechanical Fuels Reduction Project. Timber thinning and mechanical mowing equipment will be used to thin and mow approximately 249 acres of Gambel oak and ponderosa pine within Hayden Creek and Lange Canyon. The area of thinning/mowing will be along the USFS boundary and within the existing drainage and areas perpendicular to the prevailing winds. A general thinning will be conducted, with a desired target basal area of 60 to 80 sq.ft per acre. ladder fuels will be reduced through mowing the brush understory. This will reduce the potential for a crown fire, and provide for better firefighter and public safety. See numbered note 1.
