- Description
- This is a Request for Information (RFI) from the U. S. Army Research Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM)/PM Force Sustainment Systems, Natick, MA to identify sources interested in supplying a heavy duty Extraction Parachute Jettison System ( EPJS). We are seeking sources, product brochures, technical data, or other information concerning performance and costs, which will meet this requirement. BACKGROUND: An operational requirement exists to provide for the jettisoning of extraction parachut es during heavy equipment airdrop malfunctions, after extraction parachutes have been deployed, but the airdrop load remains inside the aircraft. The system will provide a safe and reliable method to jettison the extraction parachutes during any type of e xtraction malfunction. The light duty EPJS has the capability to jettison a single 28-foot extraction parachute that exerts a towed force of 27,050 pounds. At this time, RDECOM is investigating possible commercial sources for a jettison system that can j ettison up to three 28-foot extraction parachutes. The system should have the following capabilities: (1) Ability to release parachutes attached to airdrop loads having drag forces that range from zero to 80,500 pounds; (2) Be compatible with the size, w eight, and configuration constraints of C-17 or C-130 aircraft cargo compartments and control systems; (3) Be compatible with current type V airdrop platforms, rigging equipment, and aircraft airdrop systems for both single and sequential platform loads; ( 4) Must operate with all crew members forward of all loads to be extracted; (5) Maximum weight of 10 pounds added to the airdrop platform; (6) Must not degrade the overall performance of the current airdrop system; (7) Can be rigged, inspected, monitored a nd operated by one loadmaster; (8) Must have an individual activation reliability of 99 percent; and (9) must be capable of operating in all climatic categories. Proprietary information will not be disclosed outside the U.S. Government; however, if it is submitted, it should be appropriately marked. Information provided will be used to develop specific requirement for a future heavy duty EPJS. All interested firms, regardless of size, are encouraged to respond to this request for information. This Reques t for Information is for planning purposes only and shall not be construed as a Request for Proposal or as an obligation on the part of the Government. The Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this request or otherwise pay for in formation solicited. A pre-solicitation notice will be published if a formal solicitation is generated. No awards will result from this request. We are seeking sources, technical and product information for products which meet the Army's requirements, o r may meet requirements with modifications. Please submit your responses within 30 days of this publication.
