Description
The National Institutes of Health, Department of Anesthesia and Surgical Services (DASS) support the surgical programs of the NIH intramural clinical research program. The DASS has a requirement for contractors to provide at least one and up to eight dedicated anesthesiologist to respond to Clinical Center surgical scheduling requirements during the hours of 7:00am ? 3:30pm Monday ? Friday weekly. Federal Holidays are excluded. Anesthesiologists must be dedicated to the Clinical Center during these hours every day to ensure continuity of care. When on-call, the contractor shall provide emergency anesthetic service when requested during non-regular hours within one (1) hour following notification. The current operative caseload includes thoracic, neurosurgery, surgical oncology, urology, ophthalmology, kidney transplantation, general and pediatric surgery, and perfusion protocols. Care is rendered to children and adults with complex pathologies. Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are undertaken in the operating rooms as well as in satellite locations including Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) suites in Radiology, invasive radiology, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Radiation Oncology, and medical and surgical intensive care units. The contractor shall evaluate patients preoperatively and postoperatively. The contractor shall administer anesthetics and conduct supportive therapy to children and adults. The contractor shall display proficiency in working with difficult airways, use of invasive monitoring, Swan-Ganz, catheters, ACLS algorithms, and managing massive blood loss. The contractor shall be responsible for immediate postoperative therapy and intensive care anesthesiology until the patient is transferred to a patient care unit. The period of performance will be for a basic contract period of twelve months, with options to renew for four additional twelve month periods. It is anticipated that this requirement will result in multiple awards. All responsible sources may submit a proposal for all or part of the requirement. All responsible sources proposals will be considered by the agency. It is anticipated that the solicitation will be released fifteen days after this synopsis publication.
