Assistant Chief, Social Work Depart Background The Social Work Department (SWD) is located in the Warren G. Magnuson Clinical Center, Nation Institutes of Health. The SWD provides consult services to the Institutes, collaborates with Institute physicians and nurses in research protocols, and conducts independent research. Purpose The purpose of this contract is to provide psychosocial interventions for pediatric/adult patients and their families referred to the National Cancer Institutes. Patients and families referred here are either newly diagnosed or have recurrent disease that has not responded to conventional chemotherapy. Many patients seek new, investigational treatment options at NCI; others are referred for economic and social reasons. Patients can present with significant social and psychological problems. These include; lack of financial resources and health insurance, depression and anxiety disorders, family stress related issues and adjustment disorders secondary to the stress of having cancer or a child with cancer. Task 1. Qualifications to perform the above tasks include at least a master?s degree in social work, sills and knowledge in clinical social work, appropriate state licensure, and agency credentialing. The contract must also have the ability to evaluate patients and families and develop comprehensive treatment and discharge plans while working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team. The contract employee must be familiar with the various clinical trials and agency resources in order to work most effectively in providing quality social work services to patients and their families as well as some experience of working with medically ill children. The contract employee must strictly adhere to agency and professional confidentiality requirements. 2. Orients the patient and families to the Clinical Center resources. 3. Develops strategies to meet patient?s concrete financial and social needs 4. Ability to refer patients and families I to appropriate community family support services or for individual counseling as soon as problems are identified. 5. Extensive family intervention to plan for patient terminal care. Connection with hospice and /or home health care agencies can be made and grief counseling is also available upon request. 6. Collaborates with and advises multidisciplinary team in discharge planning and case management. Deliverables The contract employee will provide social work services to Clinical Center/NIH patients. Such services will include but are not limited to assessments and clinical intervention, planning, and care; short-term counseling; group work; discharge planning community resource/outreach on behalf of adult and pediatric patients and their families Government Property All written materials, study outcomes, and patient care documentation are considered government property.
