Description
Because several business units at PBGC produce great volumes of documents which are records, a large percentage of which are in electronic format, PBGC is very interested in and concerned about electronic records management (ERM) and legacy email management. As a result, PBGC has studied the market place for ERM systems and based on its research, has formulated certain draft specifications for an ERM system for the agency. In order to ascertain whether these specifications are realistic and/or optimal, the agency is making available for public comment a Request for Information (RFI) for an ERM system with legacy e-mail and electronic document archiving, database records management capability, near-line hierarchical storage, possibly document management, and related services. The RFI includes the following four sections: Section I describes the PBGC's infrastructure, end-user resources, internet and intranet accessibility, security, the agency's major operating system software components and storage components and describes existing PBGC recordkeeping systems; Section II describes PBGC's concept for an ERM system, which includes consideration of legacy records, storage management and an acquisition strategy; Section III sets forth functional specifications, each of which are ranked as either essential, significant, or non-essential, and pricing considerations; and Section IV presents a series of questions for prospective vendors. PBGC invites comments on any one or all the sections outlined above. Responses are requested by May 2, 2005 and must be submitted to: Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation Procurement Department/Greg Smith 1200 K Street, NW, Suite 1090 Washington, D.C. 20005 Alternately, responses may be submitted electronically to Smith.Gregory@pbgc.gov, or by fax to the attention of Mr. Greg Smith at fax number 202-326-4162. PBGC may use the results of this announcement as a basis for conducting further market research, including meetings with industry leaders in the ERM field. At the conclusion of its information-gathering efforts, PBGC hopes to issue a RFP for an ERM system. Interested parties are not required to respond to the RFI in order to participate in the RFP procurement. Additional information regarding the PBGC and its programs can be found at www.pbgc.gov. If you have any questions regarding this matter, you may contact Mr. Greg Smith at 202-326-4160, x3268.
