Description
The Albuquerque Indian Health Service is releasing a Sources Sought Synopsis for its requirements for graphic design, development and production of communication material in various multi-media formats for the Indian Health Service, Division of Diabetes Treatment and Prevention (IHS-DDTP). The prospective contractor will work with the IHS-DDTP staff to design, develop, produce, produce and update communcation materials which support the Division's mission and goals. The contractor will also provide technical assistance and consultation to the IHS DDTP staff and collaborative parterns including tribes, tribal organizations on issues related to graphic design and production. The following is the Government's Scope of Work: 1. Two Health for Native Life Magazines Manage, interview, photograph, write, layout, obtain and edit of two (1) Health for Native Life magazines. Update the matrix of stories used in magazines to determine areas, topics, and audiences to cover in future magazines. B) One magazine will be developed on youth issues and aimed at parents, staff and other adults. B) One magazine will continue the already developed format of addressing diabetes in individuals. Magazines will be aimed at a variety of audiences: Congressional staff, Tribal leaders and community members, Indian health professional staff and Special Diabetes Grant Program for Indians staff and communities, community programs, and clinical facilities. The proposed contractor will work with IHS DDTP to select communities to visit. Stories will be based on real life examples of health choices to include, but not be limited to, nutrition, physical activity, general well being/spirituality and specific information on diabetes prevention and control. The proposed contractor will obtain necessary releases for all photo work and interviews. It is expected that the proposed contractor will: provide one layout draft, three edits, and one proof of each magazine which will include all scanned and/or digital photos and graphics. provide final color copy and print-ready magazine on CD to printer. follow design factors known to increase readability and comprehension, and use cultural factors acceptable to most AI/AN communities within IHS regions.for magazine formatting and layout work with the IHS DDTP staff, tribal editors and other collaborators to edit magazines prior to printing. include 6 total trips (4 for contractor; 2 for tribal writer) to community sites for photos and interviews. work with one Native writing or photography intern during 1 - 2 site visits. The writing intern will co-interview or photograph with the contractor and provide written articles or magazine-quality photos. The contractor will provide travel costs and instruction. Credit for stories/photos will be shared with the writing/photography intern. 2. IHS Education Material A) Basic Booklets The proposed contractor will produce (design, edit and layout) six (6) basic education/informational booklets on various diabetes-related topics or no more than 200 pages. The style and length of similar basic booklets already produced by the proposed contractor will be continued. The IHS DDTP disseminates these booklets to clinical and community diabetes programs I/T/U-wide. It is expected that the proposed contractor will provide: each booklet to be between 16 ? 36 pages in length and utilize photos and graphics. booklet formatting and layout that will follow design factors known to increase readability and comprehension, and use cultural factors acceptable to most AI/AN communities within IHS regions. one layout draft, three edits, one rewrite and one proof of each booklet, which will include all scanned and/or digital photos and graphics final copy and print-ready booklets on CD ROM to printer. At this time, it is anticipated that the booklets to be developed will be: Medication Sexual Health Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Diabetes Prevention Cardiovascular Disease and Diabetes One to be determined B) Revise ?Taking Care of Your Diabetes? Book The proposed contractor will graphically revise the diabetes self-care management guide for patients originally developed by CDC called ?Take Charge of Your Diabetes?. The proposed contractor will: provide concept, design, photos, graphics, layout and final copy of ?Take Charge of Your Diabetes.? The new concept will be relevant to American Indians and Alaska Natives with diabetes. identify American Indian ?spokesman? for the publication, interview and photograph as needed. provide 50 photos and graphics. edit, write and layout approximately 200 pages (within 21 tabbed sections) to include approximately 175 basic text pages and 25 charts. travel to one location to interview and photograph. write new chapter introductions and edit other pages as provided from a PageMaker or Word version. provide 5 edits and one proof. provide paper copy and CD?s in print-ready format to printer. C) SDPI Compendium Project Proposed contractor will contribute to this project by contributing 20 photos and quotes 5 stories as requested by the IHS DDTP 3. Special Focus Magazine: One Young Teen Magazine The proposed contractor will develop concept, create new design, manage, interview, photograph, write, layout and edit one (1) young teen magazine. This magazine will be similar in format and layout to the Health for Native Life magazines described in Task 1 although it will have a different name and look. The approach of this teen magazine will incorporate photos, positive success stories, captions, games, self-quizzes, young Native ?celebrities?, and utilize minimal text. It will be designed for boys and girls between the ages of 13 - 16. It is expected that the proposed contractor will provide: prototype for IHS DDTP staff to review and critique and will make revisions. designs to include proposed type style for headlines, text and photo captions. proposed templates that also include placed type as an example of story length and graphic treatment. Final template size, page length, and color use will be determined with IHS DDTP staff. one layout draft, three edits, and one proof of the young teen magazine, which will include all scanned and/or digital photos and graphics. final color copy and print-ready magazine on CD ROM to the printer. magazine formatting and layout that will follow design factors known to increase readability and comprehension, and use cultural factors acceptable to most AI/AN communities within IHS regions. includes 2 total trips to community sites for photos and interviews. IHS DDTP staff, tribal editors and other collaborators will edit the young teen magazine prior to printing. 4. Head Start Materials A) Photo Book and Cards The proposed contractor will update Head Start ABC Book and develop accompanying materials which will include ABC Book notes for providers and 25 ? 50 8? x 10? photo cards. Proposed contractor will develop the concept, photograph, format and layout of ABC notes and photo cards. These cards will be used with young children at the early Head Start and Head Start levels. These photo cards will deliver healthy messages that are not limited to but include various physical activity and healthy eating practices. It is expected that the proposed contractor will provide: an update of ABC book, 3 edits and one proof and provide color copy and provide CD ROM to the printer. prototypes of ABC Book notes and photo cards. one re-write of ABC book notes, 3 edits, and one proof. 2 edits and one proof of photo cards. final color copy and print-ready ABC book notes and photo cards on CD ROM to the printer. Includes 4 total trips to community sites for photos and interviews Head Start staff and other collaborators will edit the ABC book notes and photo cards prior to printing. B) Head Start Program Reports and Other Documents Concept development and pre-press services to produce up to 50 pages and provide up to 30 photos with captions. 5. Multimedia Material including design, layout, scans A) Native American specific Am Diabetes Association poster develop concept, do photography, and design the layout provide final color copy and print-ready poster on CD ROM to the printer B) Update Photo Library include photos taken during the contract year photos to include but not limited to those taken for magazines, posters, booklets and displays the tracking system to include all current photos provide photos organized by topic and/or subject on CD ROM to the DDTP and will send specific photos via email or CD ROM to IHS and other staff from collaborating agencies. C) Develop one full-sized, oversized DDTP Display for use at meetings, conferences, and workshops develop concept provide two edits and one proof of the display provide full-color sample and CD ROM to display company. 6. IHS Diabetes Education Recognition Program (IDERP) Materials A) Recognition Program Certificates produce up to 6 full-color, printed, matted and framed IDERP Certificates based on the number of applications approved by DDTP provide 3 edits and one proof of certificates, 12 full-color, full-sized copies, 12 reduced-sized copies for filing. B) IDERP Guide for Recognition Program Auditors This Guide of no more than 30 pages will be similar in format and layout to the other IDERP materials designed by the proposed contractor although it will have a different name and content. It is expected that the proposed contractor will work with the IHS DDTP staff and other collaborators to edit the Guide prior to printing. provide one layout draft, three edits, one rewrite and one proof of the Guide which will include all scanned and/or digital photos and graphics. provide final copy and print-ready Guide on CD ROM to printer. 7. Diabetes Education Curriculums A) Update Pregnancy Curriculum provide 2 re-writes, 5 edits and one proof provide final color copy and print-ready curriculum to the printer on CD ROM. B) Update Nutrition Curriculum provide 3 re-writes, 5 edits and one proof provide final color copy and print-ready curriculum to the printer on CD ROM. 8. Miscellaneous Design, re-write, editing and layout of 100 pages Provision of specific photos not to exceed 100 photos as requested by the IHS DDTP Shipping costs of drafts, works in progress, final products to include fed ex 50 overnight and 50 2-day shipments Travel quarterly (4 trips) to meet with DDTP staff 9.
