- Description
- The FAA baselined a new Runway End Identifier Lights (REIL) Specification, FAA-E-2159e, in November 2004. This new Specification replaces the older 1987 Specification, FAA-E-2159d, REIL with RMS. A competitive Request-for-Offer (RFO) using this new Specification was released on April 22, 2005. Meanwhile, the FAA has Congressional requirements to supply REIL systems to State of Alaska sites with near-term construction schedules (fiscal years 2005 and 2006). The competitive acquisition process will not provide systems to meet these schedules. To fulfill the Congressional requirements at these Alaskan sites, the Product Team plans to negotiate a contract modification to DTFA01-03-C-00076 with DME Corporation, Fort Lauderdale, FL. The FAA will procure 30 DME Corporation's currently approved REIL, Type No. FA-18300. The Product Team believes DME Corporation is the only source whose REIL system has undergone and passed first article tests under the FAA specification, it is fully supportable by the FAA Logistics Center and the FAA Academy, and therefore the only source capable of meeting the site construction dates.
