Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG), Genetic Epidemiology Branch (GEB), plans to procure 100K arrays, Mendel 500K arrays and various reagents from Affymetrix Inc., 3380 Central Expressway, Santa Clara, CA 95051. One of the projects currently going on in the GEB is the Esophageal Cancer Genetics Studies, which was initiated in 1995 with the overall goal of discovering major susceptibility genes for esophageal cancer and identifying the genetic changes associated with the development of upper gastrointestinal cancers. Finding such genes and molecular changes will help identify persons at particular high risk and target them for prevention strategies. Previously DCEG has performed genome-wide mapping for this study using the 10K (10,000 SNP) mapping arrays. Now DCEG proposes to use the newer Affymetrix 100K (100,000 SNP) and 500K (500,000 SNP) arrays which are considerably denser (by factors of 10- and 50-fold) to accomplish this important project. The analysis will be performed at the NCI, Advanced Technology Center (ATC) using the ATC?s Government owned Affymetrix GeneChip Scanner and Affymetrix GeneChip Fluidic Station. These are the only known arrays that have a high density genome-wide mapping capacity at the 500K level that are compatible with the existing Government owned Affymetrix equipment and will be used in continuation of ongoing experiments. It is critical that new variables not be introduced into these on-going protocols by changing platforms. Affymetrix is the only known source to the NCI Researcher that can meet the aforementioned requirement. This item is commercial as defined in FAR Part 2, and this acquisition is being made in accordance with the test program using simplified procedures for certain commercial items as authorized in FAR 13.5. This is not a request for competitive quotation. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the above requirement, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The statement of capabilities and any other information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow the researcher to determine if the party can perform this requirement. An original and one copy of the capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 1:00 p.m. EDT, on May 25, 2005. Faxed and emailed capability statements are NOT authorized. All questions must be in writing and can be faxed to (301) 402-4513 or emailed to dm170b@nih.gov . It is the vendor?s responsibility to call (301) 402-4509 to insure questions have been received. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No collect call will be accepted. NAICS: 325413; Size Standard is 500 employees.
